I’ll be posting something more substantial here later tonight, but for the time being I wanted to put a quick message up to acknowledge the problems people are having with some mods on this site.
Currently the main offenders are Zan’s Minimap Mod and Minecraft Enhanced Pack. I’ve removed the download links for the time being, until I can source the latest versions for you.
I apologise for the problems you guys have been having – more on this later.
If you have a particular favourite mod, texture pack, skin or tool related to Minecraft that you would like to see on this site, by all means contact me at admin@modminecraft.com and I’ll go ahead and add it for you. If you’re the author, feel free to add some of your own comments and I’ll be sure to include them in the post for you!
If there are any mods on this site that are incorrectly credited, or uncredited, please notify me along with the actual author’s name where possible.
Description:
Remember when you chopped down a tree, the leaves used to automatically decay over time? Well, in the somewhat recent Halloween patch that decay was disabled for some reason. This mod adds it back in – it’s that simple! It’s a handy mechanic that I think a lot of people would appreciate having back, luckily desbones is on the case!
Description:
Firstly I want to apologise for the brevity of this description, but this mod is so intricate that there’s no way I could possible cover all the specific things you can do with it. Simply put, this mod allows you to tweak the automatic terrain generator in your copy of Minecraft so you can customise the size and types of biomes, and also control elevation, water level and so much more.
You really should check out the source link for the full description of what this insanely powerful mod can do, but more importantly you’ll probably need the instructions so you’ll know how to use it.
Description:
I’ve gotta be honest – I don’t normally like super HD texture packs. Usually they try to incorporate a level of realism that just doesn’t work with Minecraft’s blocky style. This pack is a little different however, in that it’s basically the same Minecraft textures we all know and love, but modified to be super high res and the result really is quite beautiful.
One particularly excellent highlight is the new improved moon and sun, both of which you can see in the screenshots below. Give this one a go, it’s really quite stunning.
Description:
I don’t know why I hadn’t added this one sooner. I had it download all ready to add to the site and all, but somewhere along the line I must have gotten distracted possibly by a blinking light or a laser pointer. At any rate, this texture pack is excellent and Frenden’s dedication has meant that it has remained up-to-date for the latest version of Minecraft. Check it out by downloading it above, or check the video below for a preview.
Description:
This popular tool enabled you to edit your Minecraft worlds without having to trudge around in-game manually creating everything. If you’ve ever heard of people “editing in” a bunch of dynamite underground and blowing it up, this is probably what they used. The uses for this tool are many and varied, so I suggest simply downloading it and jumping straight in to see for yourself what you can do.
You can find out more information at the source link above. Have fun!
Description:
This mod is actually two mods wrapped up into one – it’s a chat mod plus a minimap mod. With the success of MrMessiah’s minimap mod I was surprised no one else had attempted anything similar, then lo and behold out comes this tremendous effort from Zaneris. This mod really will give Simple Map a run for its money.
One of the more exciting features is the ability to add waypoints to the map, so you can run around and keep track of where everything is. I know I saw a lot of people wanting such a feature for Simple Map so I think that alone will make this mod incredibly popular.
There are instructions for installing at the source link above, and there’s also this demonstration video so you can see what the mod is like in action:
Description:
This mod dramatically changes the way the minecarts work – for the better! It allows you to place blocks under the track for various effects such as boosting, slowing and even rebounding. You can read a complete description at the source link above, but here’s an excerpt and a video demonstration of the features this mod offers:
Boosting Mechanic:
Placing a gold block (not gold ore) underneath a section of minecart track will cause any minecart in motion to speed up significantly (100% boost) as it passes over it. Using a gold ore instead of a gold block will give only a minor boost (25% boost). Because of this, gold ore is useful when boosting in large distances, but gold blocks will be needed for tight spaces or large boosts up hills. Minecarts not in motion will not experience any effect from it. Additionally, hooking up a powered redstone current to the booster will disable the booster, making it have no effect. Unpowered redstone, or no redstone at all makes the booster operate normally.
Braking Mechanic:
Placing Slowsand from the Nether, or gravel underneath a section of Minecart track will cause any minecart in motion to slow down dramatically as it passes over it. Slowsand slows a minecart by 50%, gravel only by 20%. One slowsand will undo the boost given by a gold block, while one gravel will undo the boost from a gold ore (check the math!) Additionally, hooking up a powered redstone current to the brake will disable the brake, making it have no effect. Unpowered redstone, or no redstone at all makes the brake operate normally.
Description:
This mod is in fact a collection of three mods by MrMessiah, all wrapped up in one neat little patcher utility. This patcher comprises:
Simple Map The insanely popular minimap mod
Ambient Occlusion A mod that adds ambient occlusion, making everything look a little softer and with more accurate shading
SMChat A mod that adds commands for Simple Map to the chat window – you can check up on these in the README.txt file included in the download
BetterGrass is presumably intended for inclusion later on, but has temporarily been removed since the biome update which changed the way things work somewhat.
Screenshots:
The screenshots below show the mod in action, however the mod has nothing to do with which texture pack is shown. You can use whatever texture pack you like with these mods – they should play nice together!
Description:
I saw this posted on the SomethingAwful forums and was immediately blown away by how simple it is while still being incredibly appealing. I’m a huge fan of minimalism so maybe I’m biased, but this is now my texture pack of choice! The author recommends using it with the Ambient Occlusion Mod by MrMessiah.
There is a standard 16×16 version available at the artist’s web site, listed as the source above.
Screenshots:
Please note these were all taken with the ambient occlusion mod enabled – while ambient occlusion doesn’t mess with the textures at all, it does put in some extra shading effects that would make these screenshots better looking than regular, unmodded Minecraft.
